The Smooth and the Striated

“According to Gilles Deleuze, art has the capacity to be ‘philosophy in practice’. We should not try to interpret art, says Deleuze, or try to write about art forms such as cinema, literature or painting. Instead we have to look at the way art generates ideas and concepts, like philosophy does; concepts that help us understand the world differently. Parallel to the conference, this exhibition provides a starting point to think about art as Deleuze’s ‘philosophy in practice’.”
